The history OF KLafs

The company Klafs Saunabau GmbH & Co. KG has existed for more than 70 years. In 1928 Erich Klafs founded the company in Stettin, Germany. Back then, Erich Klafs the enterprise specialized in medicinal spas and hospital necessaries which was moved to Schwaebisch Hall and rebuilt in 1945. Early on, Erich Klafs recognized the therapeutic benefit of the sauna and as a result the first sauna was installed in a hospital in 1952.

In the following decades the company Klafs experienced a continual increase with its saunas. Branches have been set up throughout Germany as well as subsidiaries in Austria and Switzerland. Klafs has a sales network of more than 40 sales offices and therefore can offer and ensure a qualified and personal consultation by thoroughly trained specialists.

After having tremendous influence in the establishment and design of saunas at the company’s outset, Klafs grew to become the unchallenged market leader of saunas, steam baths and spa areas. Today the Klafs group has more than 400 employees in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and sales have steadily increased from 1 million euros in 1964 to 63 million euros in 2004. Klafs has the highest worldwide turnover of any other sauna company.

Klafs brings together a passion for Wellness and a commitment to excellent design. Together with famous designers such as Henssler & Schultheiss, Klafs regularly succeeds in presenting surprising concept developments of wellness. Klafs recently presented the PROTEO sauna, a totally independent, innovative sauna which impresses with its clean lines and contemporary feel: earning it reconition in the 2005 red dot Design Awards and now nominated for the German Design Award. This is the first time ever that any sauna has reached this recognition by the design elite.

In the professional range Klafs is also setting trends and interprets market developments sensitively for each individual situation. Excellent references such as the Traube Tonbach or the Grand Hotel Nassauer Hof who received the GALA SPA Award 2004, demonstrate the distinct competence of Klafs for wellness in the Hotel industry.

In order to meet the demands and ideas of planners and operators of wellness installations, Klafs founded the subsidiary Klafs GmbH Planung und Bau in the mid-nineties. Specialists of Klafs, work from rough concept to fine planning, internal finishing works through to final commissioning of the installations, in order to fulfil customers’ requirements and ensure Klafs quality and excellence throughout the process. Therefore the Klafs group is the perfect partner offering a thorough service in co-operation with business and individual alike, forming synergistic relationships with the customer, ensuring the best for both you and your project.
